Does anyone out there have/know where to find a mint condition vinyl pressing of Rock This Town by you-know-who? Digital bass sucks.

You know you've become One of Them, when...
You squint at an L J icon pic and say "Oh; that's George", assuming everyone present your age or younger will know (of course!) you mean 'Harrison'...

Nostalgia
Barack Obama is a part of "Generation Jones," those of us born between 1954 and 1965. While reading more about him and Generation Jones, I came across this Web site about "Early Xers," or those born in the 1960s. It has pictures! Remember these things?

(X-Posted twice)
Finally, finally, finally got around to dropping into that athletic shop, Racquets and Runners1, in north Burnaby2. I got a call from them a while back - June 5th - I'd entered my name in a raffle during Hats Off Days, north Burnaby's annual community day. It's taken me this long getting back up there; nice of them to hold it for me this long.

Turns out I'd won a $130 gift certificate towards a pair of New Balance shoes. Never heard of 'em before. In spite of how much I remember hating back in 1970 still having to wear black canvas high-tops while coveting a pair of Adidas ROMs, I nonetheless wanted something general purpose that wouldn't look like a pair of '57 Studebakers (today's shoes be f---in' U-u-ugly!!!) on my feet. I settled for a pair of 'Achieve' cross-trainers - I think that's what they are.
Anyhoo, they're tastefully restrained yet outer-spacey enough looking for someone who's a moderately conservative Sci-Fi fan. At least I don't be worryin' 'bout getting jacked for my herring boxes with tops-es.

What ever happened to PF Flyers? Red Ball Jets?

1. That's what Canadians used to call 'sneakers'...

2. It's just to the right of Vancouver, if you're down in Texas looking towards Alaska. They've never heard of you, either. 's where Michael A. Fox grew up. That's right, 'A'; his actual middle name is Andrew...

little European cars
Anyone beside me miss those funny little European Cars?

Fiat, Morris, Austin, NSU, DKW , BMW Isseta, Renault, Simca, Opel, Citroen, Borgward, Gogomobile?

Most of them were not very good, but they had soul and character.  [grin]

A quick word from the moderator
Just a quick word from the current maintainer of this community: if you submit a request to join this community with a journal that has never been updated, or one that is all in a language other than English, or anything else that makes you look like a spammer even though you really aren't one, I probably won't add you to the community right away. Feel free to comment to this post if you have a question about being approved for membership.

First 'home-made' Martiini in a long while. Dang; no Louis Prima, Bobby Darrin, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine available (I'm in between domeciles at the moment; it's a long story). The Best Of The Nat 'King' Cole Trio (1947 - 1950)* will have to do... (* " - not that there's anything wrong with that! ")

Hair-color names
So, my favorite hair color, Garnier Nutrisse #558, now has a boring and ordinary name: medium mahogany brown. The actual color has not changed, but I miss the old name: chocolate peanut butter.

Does hearing an instrumental rendering of When You Wish Upon A Star make you think of pyjamas or nightgowns, a dressing gown, and the smell of Ivory soap, as it's 7:30 PM, you're about 8 years old, and Disney is just starting right after your Sunday bath?

Just asking.

One of my daughter's. . . . the one that turns 48 this year, sent me this:

<lj-cut>Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked, "How old was your husband?" "98," she replied. "Two years older than me." "So you're 96," the undertaker commented. She responded, "Hardly worth going home, is it?"

---------------------

Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman: "And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked. She simply replied, "No peer pressure."
---------------------

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

----------------------------------------------
From Florida .....I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees. Fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart. "Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed. "Why Wal-Mart?" "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffeemaker.

These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, "For fast relief."

Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing.

--- THE SENILITY PRAYER : Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Now, I think you're supposed to share this with 5 or 6, maybe 10 others. Oh heck, give it to a bunch of your friends if you can remember who they are!</lj-cut>

can anyone else relate?
At sixteen I was stupid, confused, insecure and indecisive. At twenty-five I was wise, self- confident, prepossessing and assertive. At forty-five I am stupid, confused, insecure and indecisive. Who would have supposed that maturity is only a short break in adolescence?

Voice post day reminder!
This is just to remind everyone that today is the rescheduled LJ Reach Out and Touch Someone With A Voice Post day. (It was supposed to be on September 12, but the LJ voice post system crashed that day.) So if you get a chance, make a public voice post today, and put a link back here to let us know!

Friday wins for LJ Reach Out and Touch Someone With A Voice Post Day
Results on the poll for the best rescheduled date for LJ Reach Out and Touch Someone With A Voice Post Day:

Friday, September 22 - 50%
Saturday, September 23 - 30%

So the date will be this Friday, September 22, and if the LJ voice post system happens to crash again the way it did on September 12, then we'll roll it right over to the following day, Saturday, September 23. OK with everyone?

The voice-post day will have to be rescheduled
From denimblues

After trying several of the Live Journal phone numbers to make a voice post for the unofficial Reach Out and Touch Someone Day, it seems as though the phone numbers I tried are not working. And, it seems as though I am not the only one having the problem.

mactavish saw this earlier today:

At 9:30 pm GMT on Tuesday, September 12th, Admin admin writes :

The Voice Post system is currently unavailable. We are working with our service provider to fix the issue.

I thought it was "just me," also.

So we'll have to do this another time. I'm going to set up a poll to see which day would be easiest for people to do this.

If you have any suggested rescheduled dates for this, please comment to this post.
